Our Nursery
Our nursery is a little different to most, utilising technology to increase initial growth rates and maximise success rate, making the most of valuable seed.
Location
The Tree Lab is currently based in the historic Cultybraggan Camp outside Comrie in the heart of Perthshire, sited on the boundary of native seed zones 202 and 203.
Whilst this is home, our nursery concept allows us to scale and locate according to requirements and growth.
Vertical Farm
The heart of our nursery, and our differentiator, is our "vertical farm" system. This uses GTLs (Growth Trays with Lights) in an environmentally controlled room to provide a fully managed growth environment. The GTL incorporates an automatic watering system (using harvested rainwater) with LED growing lights which can be set to provide the specific light required to optimise any stage of growth for any species.
The system is fully automated and can be remotely monitored.

Hardening Off Area
After an initial strong growth period in our vertical farm, the saplings are moved into a hardening off area to acclimatise them and prepare them for planting.

The hardening off area consists of a polytunnel for initial hardening followed by an outdoor planting area if required.
